Newfallen

Newfallen

I wrote this song after I discovered a new tuning on my guitar quite by accident. The tuning is DGDGGD. It’s a very “chimy” open tuning; I love the way it sounds and it’s very nice for doing finger-style stuff like this, but it’s also great for chords.

“Newfallen” was written several months ago but I haven’t had time to record it or give it a name, until now. The song reminds me of two things: first, the fall season, leaves falling, and the colors of amber, red, gold and orange. Second, the upbeat melody of the piece reminds me of the butterflies one gets when presented with the possibility of new love…

My first show with Homewreckr at Jackson’s in Kennewick. It wasn’t totally smooth, but it was a really fun time. More pictures are on Facebook. Go “Like” Homewreckr! And then come to a show!

Woodshedding

The Urban Dictionary describes woodshedding as:

meaning to practice or hone skills, particularly musical skills. the origin is from the fact that for purposes of privacy people would go to their woodshed to practice without being overheard

That’s definitely what I’m spending my spare time on these days. I’ve been offered, and accepted, the role as lead guitar player in the local rock cover band Homewreckr. They’re a great group of guys and I am really looking forward to the challenge and thrill of performing live.

That said, there’s a pile of stuff to learn. Fourty-four songs for a single night. Every chance I get I’m grabbing a guitar and running through a new song, trying to take it all in. After a while all the chords, notes and solos bleed into each other. Fortunately we’re still two weeks away from my first show. It’s seriously a daunting task…

In the meantime, I’m still jotting down ideas and capturing snippets for an acoustic album. “Raindrops” deserves to be the focal point of an entire album, I think. So many people who have heard it have told me they would buy the album in a heartbeat. I really want to get it out there someday.

And so it begins…

Welcome to my page. Thank you for visiting.

This website has been a long time coming. Music keeps becoming a bigger and bigger part of my life. I’ve been writing songs in my spare time for a couple years now, in between life’s events, gigs, bands, etc. People keep asking me to post stuff, so here it is. You can find MP3′s here.

If you like something, all I ask is that you let me know.

I hope to put my acoustic work into a full length album someday. There’s a lot of stuff just sitting on my recording unit that needs to be put down. We’ll see if I can free up the time to do it.

In the meantime, enjoy.
